We Tested It! Let’s See Its Performance
Rather than using raw meat, we chose to smoke the meat which we had previously cooked. It was now time to put our new Breville smoker gun to test.
So we threw a couple of slices of meat into a dish and using the saran wrap, we wrapped the bowl and sealed it as best as we could.
We placed a tiny amount of wood chips in its mesh basket and pushed its nozzle inside the bowl. Then all we had to do was to turn its fan on high and ignite the wood chips with a blower to start the process.
Next was smoke. We couldn’t see anything in the bowl because of the thick cloud of smoke that had engulfed it.
It was over in a flash. To be honest, it seemed like all we had to do was switch on the smoker and then bang! The gun is straightforward. It’s as simple as pointing and shooting.
We just cooked the meat for 5 to 6 minutes in the smoky oven and just that! It was all the time the gun needed to get it ready.
Here’s a caveat – Seal it properly otherwise it may not work that good!
The cannon creates a great deal of smoke and is quite efficient at what it does. However, there is one disadvantage.
When we put it through its paces, practically all the smoke exited through the bowl. We discovered that understanding how to utilise saran wrap to seal the bowl is a difficult aspect of this device.
Seems like you need some skill to get good results. The precise application of saran wrap to prevent smoke from escaping is the key.

How does it taste?
Overall, the smoked pork belly had a wonderful bite to it, indicating that the smoking process is effective.
For obvious reasons, it will not be able to deliver the same amount of deep smokey flavour as a full sized smoker. To anticipate something like that from a portable smoke gun is simply not reasonable in this case.
Despite the fact that this machine is really simple to operate and only takes a few minutes of smoking time, I was surprised by how much flavour my pork belly kept after being cooked in it just being exposed to smoke for a few minutes.
