If smoked sausage is safe to eat without any further preparation, the question isn’t a matter of whether the sausage is fully cooked or not.
This is an important distinction because smoked sausage that has been cured is safe to eat without having to cook it.
Curing salts in it will prevent food poisoning from being caused by bacteria. How the sausage has been smoked is one of the factors that should be considered.
If it had been hotly smoked, then it should have been cooked.

The Best Way To Cook Smoked Sausage
The best way to cook smoked sausage is through a grill. The fat of the sausage is rendered juicy and moist by high heat.
It shouldn’t take more than a few minutes for a sausage to be cooked this way. If you want to get consistent results and moist links, cover your sausages in aluminum foil.
To make sure the inner meat is cooked through and crisp, you can either score the sausage or cut it butterfly-style, which means not all the way through.
Pan-frying smoked sausage on your stovetop is the best way to cook it. Make sure you use a thick-bottomed pan, like a cast-iron skillet, to ensure even charring in this case.
It’s possible to slice the sausage to speed up the cooking process. Adding sliced sausage to an omelet or pasta is a great way to eat sausage.
When cooking sausage, you don’t necessarily need to add cooking oil to it. Sausage has a lot of fat already and will release it as soon as it comes in contact with a heat source.

The good news is that most smoked sausages are either cured or precooked, so you must only eat them once you’ve reheated them.
Do You Need to Refrigerate Smoked Sausage?
If the sausage is dry-cured, it can be kept at room temperature for up to six weeks, or in the fridge for up to three weeks if opened.
If the sausage is not dried, you should store it in the refrigerator.
How Long Will Smoked Sausage Last in the Fridge?
Dry-cured sausage can be stored in the fridge indefinitely if it hasn’t been opened and for up to three weeks if it has been opened.
If you store the sausages in the fridge at 40F or less, you should be able to cook and eat them within a day or two.
You can keep them in the fridge for between three and four days if cooked.
If opened, hot dogs and other cooked sausages can be kept in the fridge for up to a week. All kinds of sausages can be frozen and stored for up to two months.
How Long Can You Leave Smoked Sausage Out?
You can keep dry-cured sausage in the pantry for up to six weeks, according to the USDA.
All other types of sausages should be thrown out after 2 hours at room temperature or the danger zone, according to USDA guidelines.
